New Appointments

ASL is delighted to announce the arrival of two accountants to augment its team of adjusters dealing with Financial Lines claims. Stefanie Schettini joins us from KPMG, with whom she trained in South Africa and Mathieu Colomb joins us from Ernst & Young in Paris.

Stefanie and Mathieu join ASL’s multi-disciplinary loss adjusting team dealing with financial crime and professional risks on an international basis. ASL’s managing director, Michael Walter says “We are delighted to welcome Stefanie and Mathieu to our growing team of specialist adjusters focused on Financial Lines business; their accountancy experience and linguistic skills will significantly augment our loss investigation and forensic accounting capabilities.”

Lloyd’s Market Association Talk on Social Engineering Fraud

In June ASL’s director David ledger addressed an LMA audience of over 200 Financial Lines underwriting and claims professionals on social engineering fraud. Speaking in the Old Library in Lloyd’s along with Kennedys partner John Bruce, he covered the ever increasing range of criminal scams that aim to deceive innocent parties into releasing money and how these are impacting on financial institutions, commercial crime and professional indemnity policies.

New Appointment

ASL is very pleased to announce the arrival of qualified solicitor Alison Horne.  Alison joins us from Plexus Law where she advised Insurers on a wide range of professional indemnity and liability claims.

Alison will be handling financial sector crime and liability assignments on an international basis and will divide her time between ASL’s offices in London and Dubai.  ASL’s managing director, Michael Walter, says: “We are delighted to welcome Alison to ASL.  Her skills and experience will be a valuable additional resource to both our London and Dubai offices.”

New Appointment

ASL is pleased to announce the arrival of Sean Brennan. Sean is qualified as a UK Solicitor and joins us from Beale & Co where he advised Insurers on a wide range of Professional Indemnity claims. Prior to that Sean qualified at DAC Beachcroft where he was part of the Professional & Commercial Risks Group.

Sean joins ASL’s multi-disciplinary loss adjusting team dealing with financial and professional risks on an international basis. ASL’s managing director, Michael Walter, says “Sean’s arrival augments the experience and technical skills of ASL’s growing Professional Indemnity and Liability team as well as providing a valuable additional resource to our Financial Institutions team. ASL is pleased to announce that two Chartered Accountants, David Lambourn and Kunal Benodekar, have joined the firm as senior adjusters.

David is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (CA) and qualified with insurance company Aviva. Kunal is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales; he qualified with PwC.

Both David and Kunal will be handling financial sector crime and liability assignments on an international basis and will divide their time between ASL’s London and Dubai offices. ASL’s managing director, Michael Walter, says: “We are very pleased to welcome David and Kunal to ASL. Social Engineering Frauds – a live issue for the Crime and FI markets

ASL have long experience of investigating the often huge losses that flow from these frauds; and of helping to prevent them too. Helen Meredith and David Ledger were invited to speak on the subject in Stockholm and Copenhagen recently. The presentations were extremely well attended by brokers and risk managers alike – a testament to the current level of interest in these exposures.

New Appointment

ASL is pleased to announce that Stephen Ixer has joined the firm as associate director. Stephen is qualified as a UK solicitor and most recently worked for Cozen O’Connor. He has advised on coverage and claims with particular reference to Latin America and has extensive experience across a range of specialist classes.

Before becoming an insurance lawyer, Stephen lived in Venezuela for seven years where he worked as a political and economic journalist. In that period he was a staff writer for the Associated Press and latterly the Venezuela energy correspondent for Platts; he also wrote freelance articles for the international press including The Guardian and BusinessWeek magazine.

Stephen will be handling financial sector crime and specialist liability assignments in Latin America and elsewhere. ASL’s managing director, Michael Walter, says: “Stephen’s linguistic capability and professional experience are a major addition to our market-leading international team and it’s great to have him on board”.

ASL opens in Dubai

ASL is delighted to announce the opening of its new MENA office in Dubai from which we’ll be offering the full range of specialist loss adjusting services that ASL is known for. The office is led by our resident director Clive Brantingham and will undertake assignments across the Middle East and North Africa. Clive has extensive experience of financial sector crime and professional indemnity claims in the region along with other specialist casualty business.

Michael Walter, ASL’s managing director, says:

We’re very excited about opening in Dubai. Having a regional base will allow us to offer an enhanced service to our existing clients. This is a vibrant business environment and we’re looking forward to exploiting new opportunities as our clients expand their presence in the region. New Staff Arrival

ASL’s international loss adjusting resources have been augmented with the arrival of Georgina Jacobs. Georgina qualified as a solicitor with Clyde & Co where she gained seven years’ experience of complex international insurance claims. She joins ASL from Lloyds Banking Group where she managed a team handling disputes in respect of sophisticated financial products.

Georgina has worked for periods in Chile and Mexico and is fluent in Spanish and French. She also speaks Portuguese and has spent time in Brazil. As part of ASL’s international loss adjusting team, Georgina deals with financial institutions losses and other specialist casualty work in Latin America and elsewhere.

Qualification First

ASL congratulates Associate Director Erika Hinojosa on being the first person from Latin America to obtain the Advanced Diploma qualification of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (Adv Dip CILA). Erika is responsible for ASL’s operations in Latin America and the Caribbean.
