DDoS Attack on an e-Commerce Platform
This Distributed Denial of Service “DDos” attack affected the eCommerce platform of a retailer of horticultural and garden products. The result was a significant business interruption loss. The task for our chartered accountants was to establish how much that loss actually was.
Action:
- We forensically analysed the insured’s financial / website data and researched the external factors affecting the business. Most notably, we established that significant growth in revenue over the six months prior to the attack was linked to an event unrelated to the affected period. Our detailed review of the website traffic from Google Analytics in the weeks preceding the attack supported this; demonstrating that the previous comparative period was not representative of that which followed.
Result:
By taking a collaborative and open approach to addressing our findings with the insured, we assisted insurers in achieving an amicable settlement of the claim.
